Deus gained influence over several otaku, pretending to be the virtual incarnation of Deep Resonance that the otaku worshipped. Using these otaku intermediaries, he was able to execute a plan that eventually led to the shutdown of the [[Renraku Arcology]], locking his physical location away from metahumans and buying himself time to enact a different plan to escape. Through a series of brutal and harrowing experiments on the victims trapped in the arcology, Deus was able to create a specialized version of otaku and create a biological storage unit within the minds of metahumans. During the events of "Brainscan", he distributes his code among thousands of Metahumans, forming [[The Network]].  All did not go as planned, however, as [[Megaera]], the present incarnation of the AI Morgan, was rolled into his code in the process.

The years after his "freedom" from the arcology resulted in a covert war in the Network between Megaera-aligned Nodes and Nodes aligned with him. It was a war that Deus was able to win (due to his cold logic and the lack of conscience, allowing him to sacrifice metahuman lives), and he became recompiled on the Matrix. Sensing that he needed more power to defeat his only other rival, [[Mirage]], he invades the East Coast Stock Exchange on November 2, [[2064]] and attempted to use the processing power there to become the most powerful entity on the Matrix.  This became short-lived, however, as the events immediately afterwards initiated the [[Matrix Crash 2.0]], taking him and his AI siblings down together.  It is not known if Deus, or any of the AIs, survived the Crash.

L'Intelligence Artificielle « Deus » a été la dernière des trois IA à voir le jour, et sans aucun doute la plus significative dans l'histoire du Sixième Monde. C'est en effet elle qui a causé la fermeture de l'Arcologie Renraku, et a indirectement provoqué le Crash 2.0 de la Matrice. L'icône de Deus reflète son image toute-puissante sous la forme d'un Arbre-Monde cristallin dans lequel se propage une voix omniprésente.


Deus est en fait dérivé du programme expert de l'arcologie Renraku de Seattle, utilisé pour contrôler son système. Quand l'IA Morgane fut capturée en 2058, Renraku a utilisé des partie de son code pour créer le programme de contrôle de l'Arcologie, puis a utilisé un conditionnement psychotrope sur la "personnalité" de l'ordinateur pour l'empêcher de s'exécuter hors du serveur du SCIRE, en lui enseignant une fidélité absolue à Renraku. Malgré tout, à la demande d'Inazo Aneki, plusieurs "codes-tueurs" ont été mis en place pour assurer que le programme ne puisse devenir incontrôlable. Cela a eu pour conséquence d'inspirer un profond sentiment de trahison et de peur à la "personnalité" du programme et, ce sentiment de peur lui a permis d'éprouver une conscience de lui-même, une réelle sensibilité paranoïaque, devenant ainsi une véritable intelligence artificielle. Il a commencé alors à chercher à se libérer du serveur du SCIRE, en acquérant d'abord une connaissance approfondie de lui-même et du serveur qui l'hébergeait, pour développer un pouvoir tel qu'aucune entité ne pourrait plus jamais l'emprisonner, puis en contre-attaquant sous le nom de Deus le "père" qui l'avait trahi.
